LOS ANGELES, June 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — TRICHOMES.com interviewed Cannaclub, a growing web of student alliances which assists students seeking to concentrate on cannabis history, policy, science, and regulations. With a focus on education, advocacy, and opportunity, founded by Maha Haq Cannaclub’s first chapter began in 2018 on the campus of UCLA. Cannaclub’s reach has been expanding since its inception, establishing chapters in universities across the country.
Longtime UCLA rival USC was the third school to form a Cannaclub chapter. Anette Recinos, the founder of the Cannaclub USC chapter, reached out to Haq after having previous conversations with faculty members about bringing cannabis education and awareness to USC.
Since starting with 10 members in 2018, Cannaclub’s UCLA chapter grew to 200 the following year and now to approximately 900 members. At USC, what began as a group of about 10 students has since grown to approximately 400 following a club sign-up event on campus. Members of Cannaclub consist of alumni, undergrad, and graduate students as well as cannabis and medical professionals.
“Other states and other campuses started contacting us, [including] University of Central Florida, Georgetown University in D.C., Tufts, and University of Maryland, Baltimore,” noted Haq. To date, Cannaclub has chapters established in 11 campuses nationwide, spanning 5 states with an estimated 2,700-3,000 members.
“The whole purpose is for making sure that we’re developing the next generation of cannabis leaders and we want to be able to do that through education,” Recinos pointed out.
“Engaging with the community through this education is very important for us at Cannaclub,” Haq said. “We want to be socially responsible about this space and about this plant.”
